CHRISTEL VAN HEMELRIJCK
Christel Van Hemelrijck’s work,a vibrant collection of abstract oil on canvas paintings, stands out by the use of texture, colour and light.
Those textures can be observed in het earlier series Rupture, mostly energetic and chaotic as seen in paintings like Pinky Promise and Alizarine, sometimes more subtle like Underwater or Ruby Night.
The use of a palette knife is omnipresent in her earlier work. The right kind of punk attitude brings us back to her younger self with a clin d'oeil to the music scene of the late seventies and early eitghties.
She replaces black by the energetic use of plain colour, mostly red and blue as obeserved in her more recent series Selino. No representation of classic sceneries but an outburst of raw emotions. Overwhelming monochromatic planes, intrusive and captivating.
In her latest series Stories the backgrounds become more elaborate and more delicate and the use of a palette knife more feminine. Christel still paints with vibrance, expressing herself passionately. A different pace, new directions, new stories.
